Allen approves 2021 budget

The Allen Township Board of Supervisors met Dec. 8 to discuss the adoption of the 2021 budget.

The virtual meeting was the last of the 2020 meetings, with the next scheduled meeting to be held Jan. 4, 2021.

The 2021 budget has been advertised and open for public comment for a few months. The budget total expenditures from the general fund are projected at $2,227,000. This was discussed in length in the board’s in-person budget workshop Nov. 5.

It is a “rather conservative budget in light of the COVID-19 pandemic and the unknown effects on things in general,” township Manager Ilene Eckhart said Dec. 8.

Eckhart also explained the budget, as advertised, contains the millage assumption of 5 mills, which has remained unchanged for more than a decade.

“The budget does realize again in revenue from the growth in [Local Service Tax] as well as earned income taxes being a steady increase,” she said.

The Local Service Tax would be the $52 paid by employees who are employed within the township. This would be the area of industrial and commercial growth, according to Eckhart.

Supervisor Carl Edwards said he’d love to see a budget cut but realizes it’s just not possible at the moment. With that, the board approved the 2021 budget for consideration to adopt.
