Administration reports additional positive COVID-19 cases

Whitehall-Coplay School District continues to notify families of positive COVID-19 cases in the district.

A notification made Dec. 15 said three new cases were reported among learn-at-home students. One case is a Whitehall High School student, and two are Whitehall-Coplay Middle School students.

There were six student cases and two staff cases reported Dec. 18. The student cases include one at WHS, one at WCMS, two middle school learn-at-home students, one at Zephyr Elementary School and one at Gockley Elementary School.

The staff cases are one at WHS and one who works as part of the district’s support group.

A Dec. 21 notification reported three new staff cases - one at WHS and two at Gockley. Two WCMS student cases were also reported.

The notifications report the district is monitoring the case count closely and is working with Pennsylvania Department of Health.

The COVID-19 notification letters remind families Lehigh County is in the substantial classification for COVID-19 community transmission.

“With this new information, the district will need to monitor the situation very closely, as it may impact our instructional delivery in the future,” the letters state.

WCSD continues to urge families and students to monitor for symptoms and to keep students home if they exhibit any COVID-19 symptoms. A screening procedure card is available to help parents/guardians recognize signs of the virus.
