SHS names Sierra Rauch student of the week
Q. In what grade are you currently enrolled?
A. I am currently a senior at Salisbury.
Q. Who is in your family? Please provide the first names of your family members: parents, siblings and pets.
A. In one household I live with my mother Danielle, grandmother Irene, aunt Lisa and my cat named Handsome. In another house, I live with my father Scot and brother Tyler, who graduated from Salisbury in 2019.
Q. What is your favorite subject? Why?
A. My favorite subject has always been science because I seem to excel in it. My favorite class was anatomy because it helped me realize that I wanted to go into the medical field.
Q. Have you received any special awards or recognition?
A. National Honor Society.
Q. Are you involved in any extracurricular activities? How has COVID-19 impacted these activities?
A. I am involved in lots of extracurriculars. These include managing the varsity football and varsity baseball teams, National Honor Society, Student Advisory, Aevidum and peer mediation. I also have higher recognition in extracurriculars like Key Club, where I am vice president and student government where I am secretary, as well as captain of the varsity basketball team, which is my all time favorite extracurricular. COVID-19 has impacted these activities in unexplainable ways. Obviously we have to have meetings via Zoom for clubs and we can’t get together to do our normal activities. For sports, fall athletics were delayed and I am currently playing basketball, but my team is expecting to be pushed back to January 2021, like other leagues have. No matter what, all we want is to be able to play a couple games, especially the seniors who have mostly all been playing for a majority of their lives.
Q. What is your next goal after high school?
A. My goal after high school is to graduate from a four year university and get into medical school for an undecided profession.
Q. What do you consider your biggest challenge to date?
A. My biggest challenge is definitely that I overthink everything. For me, something so small can make me so anxious and I won’t calm down unless the problem is settled. This generally helps me in school, but it could also have a downfall. This is because when I have something due, big or small, I need to do it right away, or I won’t stop thinking about it, leading me to putting all my effort into it, until it is done.
Q. For what would you like to be remembered?
A. I want to be remembered as someone who tried to include everyone. I always feel bad if someone is alone or struggling, so I always try to help people who are quieter or are just having a hard time with their work.
Q. Whom do you admire? Why?
A. I absolutely admire my mother. She has always been the person I look up to no matter what and her constant strength through anything is what pushes me to be the best I can be.
Q. Do you have any advice for your peers?
A. If I could give any advice to my peers, it would be to never change for someone else’s sake. Always be you and be confident in who you are. No one else’s opinions matter in your life, except yours.
