The downtown Bethlehem businesses community is hosting a socially distant, interactive Christmas contest to kick off the holiday shopping season on Small Business Saturday (November 28). It's called Selfie with an Elfie. The winner gets a $200 gift certificate to shop in Historic Downtown Bethlehem. Downtown Bethlehem Association Manager Tammy Wendling said, “This is a really fun way to support our struggling local businesses while remaining socially distant.” Participants will search for festive elves on shelves in shops and restaurants on Main Street and Broad Street. When they find an elf, they enter the contest by snapping a selfie with it and posting it on social media. You can post photos to the Heart of Bethlehem Facebook Page, share with the Heart of Bethlehem Instagram Page, or share them on your own social media profiles with the hashtags #ShopSmall and #SelfieWithanElfie. There's no purchase necessary and it's free to enter. With travel restrictions in place across many states, Bethlehem leaders believe this is a great time for people to discover their local shops and restaurants. Wendling said, “We think it's the perfect opportunity for locals who haven't experienced the downtown to check out all there is to offer here.
