John Menio, 97, of North Catasauqua, died Dec. 6, 2020. He was the husband of Jennie (Boruch) Menio for 68 years.
Born in Wilkes-Barre, he was a son of the late Nicholas and Julia (Huczko) Menio.
He was in the 511 Parachute Infantry Regiment, 11th Airborne Division in the South Pacific Theater. He was the recipient of both a Purple Heart and a Bronze Star.
He studied hair styling with M. Louis in New York City. He worked in the hair salon at Hess’s Department Store for 12 years. He owned and operated Mr. John’s Beauty Salon for 43 years until he retired in 1986. He was an inspector of layouts of armor at the Bethlehem Steel in the armored plated division.
He was a member of St. John the Baptist Ukrainian Catholic Church, Northampton.
He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, fourth degree, Bishop Welsh Assembly 931, where he served as the Faithful Navigator and sick and welfare chairman for 23 years. He was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4714, Northampton. He was a member of the Friendly Fifties and the Coplay Saengerbund.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Eugenia Emert and her husband Harvey of Catasauqua; two sons, Dr. John N. and his wife Mary of Shavertown and Dr. Gregory and his wife Dr. Elizabeth of East Stroudsburg; a sister, Julia Panick of Hellertown; nine grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by three brothers, Walter, Alexander and Peter.
