Charles F. Fry, 93, formerly of Northampton, died Dec. 8, 2020, at Sacred Heart Assisted Living, Northampton. He was the husband of the late Loretta A. (Wisher) Fry.
Born in Shamokin, he was a son of the late David S. and Maryann (Madara) Fry.
He was a 1944 graduate of Coal Township High School, Shamokin.
He was in both the Atlantic and Pacific fleets in the U.S. Navy for 22 years during World War II and the Korean and Vietnam wars. He retired as a Master Chief Personnel Man (E-9). He was awarded the Navy’s Good Conduct Medal, Commendation Ribbon and the Meritorious Unit Commendation Ribbon and the Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross with Palm and the Vietnam Service Ribbon with one star.
He was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, Bath. He was a member of the Holy Name Society and was the first president of the Parish St. Vincent de Paul conference. He worked at the monthly church community breakfast and at the annual church picnic. He was an Extraordinary Minister of the Eucharistic for more than 20 years. He was a member of the parish school advisory board.
He was a life member of Fleet Reserve Association, American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Naval Institute. He was a fourth degree in the Knights of Columbus. He was a volunteer at Allentown Osteopathic Hospital and at Miller Memorial Blood Bank for many years and at Allentown Literacy Council.
He is survived by three daughters, Ann K. and her husband Donald Troxell of Northampton, Mary T. and her husband Stephen Newman Sr. of New Philadelphia, Ohio, and Julia C. and her husband Roy R. Grube Sr. of New Tripoli; a son, Charles J. of Whitehall; 10 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; nieces; and nephews.
He was predeceased by three sisters; and three brothers.
