PRESS PHOTOS BY DONNA GEWERTZ Grinch and Cindy Lou Who - also known as Dave and Denise Continenza, of Whitehall Area Rotary - welcome participants to the club's fourth annual Jingle Bell Run, held Dec. 5 on the Ironton Rail Trail. Costumes were encouraged, and these two did not disappoint.
Brian Kunsman, of Coplay, displays his themed racing attire for the fourth annual Whitehall Area Rotary Jingle Bell Run Dec. 5 on the Ironton Rail Trail. The race kicked off with approximately 125 participants. The race was comprised of a 5K walking course and an 8K running course. Participants were also able to join in virtually but were not eligible for prizes.
Runners begin at socially distanced intervals at the starting line near the Saylor Kilns along the IRT. Each runner was individually timed to determine the race winners, despite the unconventional start due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Whitehall Area Rotary Club members Mary Briody (left) and Denise Hozza staff the basket raffle table at the end of the race to earn additional funds for the club's programs that serve the community. The raffle was held virtually using QR codes to maintain appropriate social distancing.
The Jingle Bell Run is a fun family affair for grandmother Dawn Barry, of Westtown, N.Y., a running race participant, daughter Marie Smith and granddaughter Elizabeth Smith, both of Coplay, who participated in the walking race.
