Some 30 firefighters from Germansville, New Tripoli, Lynnport, Neffs, Schnecksville and Weisenberg Township fought to save a detached garage which caught fire at 9 a.m. on Dec. 4.
According to Fire Chief Jay Scheffler, of Goodwill Fire Company, Germansville, the fire was in a garage at 7180 Bake Oven Road, on property owned by Delores Cunfer.
Scheffler said that Lynnport, Neffs and Schnecksville volunteer firefighters brought tankers to the scene to transport water.
Weisenberg firefighters responded with Engine 51.
According to the chief, who spoke with The Press on Dec. 8, there was an old vehicle in the back of the garage and the fire was fueled by several 100-pound propane tanks, which exploded on the south side of the structure.
Scheffler said the fire was declared under control around 11 a.m.
The cause of the fire is being investigated by State Police Fire Marshal Scott LaBar, Scheffler said.
“I want to thank everybody who responded to the scene,” Scheffler said. Everybody did a great job.
“We arrived in six minutes and were able to protect the nearby barn.
“The guys did a good knockdown and kept the fire from spreading.”
