Whitehall-Coplay School District administration continues to notify families of positive COVID-19 cases in the district.

A notification sent to families and posted on the district website Dec. 2 informed parents/guardians of five new confirmed coronavirus cases. Three of the cases were reported at Whitehall High School, and the others were reported at Whitehall-Coplay Middle School and Gockley Elementary School.

A notification Dec. 3 informed families of two additional cases - a learn-at-home high school student and a student at Gockley.

There was an additional notification Dec. 4 reporting a positive case at Zephyr Elementary School and a case at Steckel Elementary School.

The school district sent another notification Dec. 7 informing families there were five new student cases and three staff cases. The student cases include one at WHS, two at WCMS and two at Steckel.

The three staff cases include one at Steckel and two staff members at Gockley.

A Dec. 8 letter reported five new cases - two at WHS, one high school learn-at-home student, one at WCMS and one at Steckel Elementary.

According to the Dec. 8 notification, all school buildings remain open at this time.

The notifications report the district is monitoring the case count closely and is working with the Pennsylvania Department of Health.

The COVID-19 notification letters remind families Lehigh County is in the substantial classification for COVID-19 community transmission.

“With this new information, the district will need to monitor the situation very closely, as it may impact our instructional delivery in the future,” the letters state.

WCSD continues to urge families and students to monitor for symptoms and to keep students home if they exhibit any COVID-19 symptoms. A screening procedure card is available to help parents/guardians recognize signs of the virus.
