Lehigh Township police apprehended a Slatington man a day after being called to a reported domestic dispute in the township last week.
According to the report, officers were dispatched 11:51 p.m. Dec. 2 to the 1000 block of Blue Mountain Drive for a reported domestic dispute.
Upon speaking with the female victim, Lehigh Township Police received information Roy Schlegel, 33, of Slatington, was involved in a domestic assault with his girlfriend and took her vehicle, a black 2001 Hyundai Santa Fe, according to police.
Police were reportedly contacted 1:51 a.m. Dec. 3 that Schlegel had returned to the victim’s house.
According to police, Schlegel was observed revving the engine of the vehicle before driving the vehicle at a high speed toward police, who were standing in the driveway.
Schlegel fled the area and was pursued by police for a short time. Police reported they terminated the pursuit due to the high speeds and erratic way Schlegel was driving.
There were reports he might be operating a stolen 2002 white Ford F250 pickup truck with a yellow light on top.
Lehigh Township police reportedly then observed Schlegel walking along Mountain View Drive. Officers engaged in a foot pursuit.
According to police, Schlegel was found hiding in a shed at 1245 Meyers Drive and was apprehended.
He was remanded to Northampton County Prison with outstanding warrants from Lehigh Township and Slatington Borough. Reportedly, both police departments have felony warrants for Schlegel for different incidents involving separate fleeing and eluding and resisting arrest cases in August.
An additional warrant was issued for charges of felony fleeing and eluding, flight to avoid apprehension, resisting arrest, stalking, reckless endangering, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and reckless driving.
