John T. Yanders, 89, of Northampton, died Dec. 3, 2020, of COVID-19. He was the husband of Mary Ann (Stubits) Yanders for 66 years.
He was a son of the late Josephine (Kozero) and John Yanders Sr.
He was a U.S. Army veteran.
He retired from NGK Metals, Reading, where he was a metallurgical engineering associate for 25 years. Earlier, he was a commercial painter, upgrading area monuments and the flagpole atop the PPL building.
He was a member of Queenship of Mary Church, Northampton. He was a pierogi maker at the former St. Michael’s Polish church.
An accomplished trapshooter for more than 60 years, he was a co-founder of the Lappawinzo Gun Club for many decades. He was a member of the local Catholic War Veterans and Veterans of Foreign Wars organizations.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a “special” son, Tommy of Nazareth, and a son, Robert and his wife Lynne of Harpswell, Maine; a daughter, Janet Heminitz and her husband John of Walnutport; a sister, Dolores Horvath and her husband Paul of Whitehall; six grandchildren, Heather, Janelle, Brad, Jocelyn, Melissa and Matthew; two great-grandsons, Paxton and Nolan; nieces; and nephews.
Contributions may be made to the Parkinson’s Foundation or to his son Tommy’s care facility, Step-by-Step Inc., c/o the funeral home, 326 E. 21 St., Northampton, 18067.
Graveside services will be private, with a memorial mass to be announced in 2021.
