E. Allen supervisors approve hearing for new housing project

At the East Allen Township Board of Supervisors Nov. 12 meeting, Pennsylvania Venture Capital was granted, by unanimous vote, a public hearing sometime in January 2021.

Pennsylvania Venture Capital has a long history of developments, often to benefit senior citizens. This new proposed project is being called Villages of East Allen. It is for active adults and seniors aged 55 and older.

If approved, the project will have about 110 units. The community will include an indoor pool, a clubhouse and walking paths. The Villages of East Allen will be developed on about 30 acres of land. It is designed to provide affordable homeownership for active seniors.

Leaders of Pennsylvania Venture Capital are excited about this opportunity to provide needed affordable senior housing.

Reached after the meeting, Abraham Atiyeh, of Pennsylvania Venture Capital, said, “This project is a model for senior citizens housing throughout the Lehigh Valley. It’s affordable and comfortable living.”

Pennsylvania Venture Capital is requesting what is referred to as a text change and a map change. At the possible January 2021 meeting, the project will be discussed and open for public comment.

The supervisors voted to advertise and recommended to adopt the no-tax-hike budget for 2021 at meetings during December.

The CARES Act funding of about $475,000 from Northampton County is in the process of being spent. It was reported about $141,000 has been used. The funding must be spent by Dec. 31. Executed contracts completed by the end of 2020 that will be consummated in 2021 count for the Dec. 31 deadline.

Another round of CARES Act money might be in the offing for East Allen Township. Township Manager Brent M. Green was directed to develop a list of potential expenditures should additional funding become available.

East Allen Township Ambulance Corps reported responding to 56 incidents, including 26 advanced life support calls, 23 basic life support calls, one fire call and two motor vehicle accident calls in October. There also were 44 nonurgent transports.

The ambulance corps broke even financially during October. The group is also seeking more staff.

There was discussion about planning for a new public works building in the next year.

In the public comment portion of the meeting, a resident asked about the board of supervisors meeting minutes not being up to date. He explained residents don’t know what is occurring in the township if the minutes are not up to date.

Green took responsibility for the issue, explaining they were working short-handed until the new secretary was recently hired. He thanked the resident for bringing up the matter and apologized for the shortfall, saying it would be corrected soon.

The next board of supervisors meeting, a virtual meeting, is 7 p.m. Dec. 16. Visit eatwp.org or call the township office at 610-262-7961 for the meeting call number and access code.
