Salisbury police enact new safety measures

Salisbury Police Department Chief Kevin Soberick posted the following information on Facebook Nov. 28.

In order to address the COVID-19 pandemic, the Salisbury Township Police Department is enacting measures to safeguard officers and staff so they can continue to serve residents without interruption.

The department must follow recommended safety practices such as social distancing to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

Effective 12 a.m. Dec. 1, until further notice, the following safety measures will take place:

The Salisbury Township Police Station will be closed to the general public.

The filing of nonemergency reports will be done by telephone by calling the police station at 610-797-1447 or Lehigh County Dispatch at 610-437-5252. You may also email covid19call@salisburypolice.org and an incident report will be started with a follow-up call to you.

Emergency response will not be affected by the above changes. Please continue to call 911 for an emergency.

Officers may ask residents to step outside to speak with them. Please follow the officers’ or dispatchers’ instructions if able to do so.

No hunting permits will be issued. If residents intend to apply for a hunting permit, it must be done before the above noted deadline.

The police department will continue to reevaluate and keep residents updated as information warrants.

The Salisbury Police Department appreciates residents’ understanding and assistance during these challenging times. We need to keep our first responders’ exposure at a minimum so we may continue to serve and meet the needs of our community.
