Emmaus High School names student of the week

Q. In what grade are you currently enrolled?

A. I am in 12th grade at Emmaus High School.

Q. Please provide the first names of your family members: parents, siblings and pets.

A. My parents’ names are Chip and Karen. I also have two brothers, the older is Sam and the younger is Will.

Q. What is your favorite subject? Why?

A. My favorite subject is math. I’m a problem solver and I love the opportunity to systematically work my way through a problem to arrive at a solution.

Q. Have you received any special awards or recognition?

A. I am a National Merit Commended Scholar, I’m part of National Honor Society and I was selected for both the Lehigh Valley and The Morning Call all area teams last year for soccer.

Q. Are you involved in any extracurricular activities? How has COVID-19 impacted these activities?

A. I am a Hornet Ambassador, vice president of Interact Club, a student leader in Young Life, a math tutor and I am a goalkeeper for the Emmaus soccer team. Some activities have been completely shut down due to COVID-19, but in general we are moving forward, being conscious of the current situation and making sure to take precautions to stay safe.

Q. What do you consider your biggest challenge to date?

A. During sophomore year, I had to have several elbow surgeries due to a soccer-related injury within about a month. In the weeks to come, I determined new ways I could contribute toward the team’s success as we made a run in districts and states. In addition to rising above the athletic disappointment, I found myself with an entire month of BC calculus and AP physics material to make up.

Q. What is your next goal after high school?

A. I look forward to attending a university next fall and diving deeper into the fields of engineering, computer science and math.

Q. Whom do you admire? Why?

A. I admire my older brother, Sam. He’s been a prime example of what it looks like to be a man of perseverance and integrity while being one of the most fun people I know. His strong belief system has guided his decision making and provided a template for others to emulate.

Q. For what would you like to be remembered?

A. I’d like to be remembered for making those around me feel like they belong and for having a positive outlook no matter the circumstances.

Q. Do you have any advice for your peers?

A. Whatever you do, always give it everything you’ve got. When you pursue things wholeheartedly, you get a clear picture of what’s really valuable in life.
