Whitehall Area Rotary Club will hold the fourth annual Jingle Bell 8K run/5K walk Dec. 5.
Race festivities will be held at American Club of Coplay, 300 Cherry St. The run starts at the Coplay pavilion. The walk takes off from the American Club location. For the 8K run, the course is flat and fast; the 5K course is flat and dog friendly.
A new feature this year is a hybrid approach to the event. In addition to the people attending the run/walk in person, there is a virtual option for those who want to participate from the comfort of their own surroundings.
All participants must adhere to Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines, including 6-foot social distancing from other runners and mask wearing. According to event organizers, runners will be able to remove their mask at the start line but must put them back on after finishing.
The run will feature staggered start times for runners and walkers. One runner will start every 20 seconds, and there will be only one person at the starting line at a time.
The run starts 9 a.m. Runners will be chipped and timed from the moment they start until they finish. The race will be professionally timed by Bryn Mawr Racing Company. Results will be found at brynmawrracing.com.
Walkers will begin in a staggered pace after the last runner takes off. Walkers will not be timed.
Virtual runners can join in the fun by starting their run 9 a.m. as well and texting their results to the chip timers. Virtual runners are eligible to receive a T-shirt but are not eligible for cash awards.
The overall male and female first-place winners will receive $100; second place, $50; and third place, $25. The top two in each age group - 19 and under, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69 and 70 and over - will also be rewarded. Awards will be mailed the day after the run.
Holiday-themed costumes are highly encouraged.
There will be to-go hot dogs, to-go hot chocolate and snack bags.
