Lehigh Township Board of Supervisors announced Nov. 10 that the township, in partnership with the Greater Northern Lehigh Chamber of Commerce, will hold its first tree lighting 5:30-7:30 p.m. Dec. 6 at Bryfogle Park, 4582 Aspen Drive, Berlinsville.
The event will include a visit from Santa, refreshments, vendors and a canned food drive to benefit local food banks.
Supervisors also announced they are ready to advertise the 2021 budget for adoption at the Dec. 8 meeting.
In other business, board members have decided that, in amending Chapter 56 of the 2020-4 ordinance pertaining to house numbers, they will lower the noncompliance fee from $1,000 to $100 and also will require the green reflective background with white reflective lettering. Residents will have until next June to get it done.
Dissent still surrounds Ordinance 2020-3 regarding short-term rentals and the rules governing them. A particular point of contention for Chairwoman Cindy Miller was David Jaindl’s suggestion an amendment be made to exclude his planned resort residential community from the ordinance.
Miller doesn’t want short-term rentals in the residential area of the resort community or any other residential area. She only wants them in commercial areas of the township, which for the planned resort, would mean keeping them near the hotel/spa section of the development.
“If you make an exception here, you have to make an exception elsewhere,” she said.
Although the ordinance was adopted, a motion was passed shortly after to allow township Solicitor David Backenstoe and Jaindl attorney Joseph Zator to continue working on amendments to tailor it.
