School board gives preliminary approval for new textbook

Catasauqua Area School District Board of Education met briefly Nov. 10.
Assistant Superintendent Christina Lutz-Doemling reported the academics committee has chosen a new economics textbook for Catasauqua High School. The book will remain on display in the district office board room for examination and review for a minimum period of 30 days.
The school board granted preliminary approval for the new textbook. Final approval is expected to occur in January 2021.
Several extracurricular positions were approved for the 2020-21 school year.
Eric Snyder was approved as the head boys basketball coach at $7,065, as well as assistant boys basketball coaches Andrew Oswald at $4,067, Brett Zieber at $3,067, James Snyder at $1,000 and Thomas Reap, Branden Keks and Anthony Brinkley, as volunteers.
Mark Seremula was approved as the head girls basketball coach at $7,065, with assistant girls basketball coaches Steven Bradley and Norman Best, both at $4,067, and Jenarosa Auriemma as a volunteer.
Joseph Russo was approved as the head wrestling coach at $7,065, with assistant wrestling coaches Jonathan Reed at $3,500, Joseph Stofko at $1,384, Branden Strohl at $3,250 and Kyle Rusnock, Tarik Haddad and Michael Rusnock as volunteers. Joseph Stofko was also approved as the winter weight room monitor at $600.
Allison Beecher was approved as the indoor winter guard instructor at $1,051, with Robert Arnold as the assistant winter guard instructor at $526. John Leiderman was appointed the volunteer assistant marching band director.
Regarding other personnel changes, Tiandra Reigel was added to the substitute teacher list, and the resignations of student worker Alexis Henry and districtwide part-time custodian Christina Deitrich were approved.
In other business, school board members voted to approve the school district guidelines for returning to sports, the winter edition, with minor word choice changes. The disposal of the high school wrestling mats was also approved. It was reported the mats are no longer needed due to the receipt of replacement mats.
The Class of 2024 student activity account was also approved.
School board members voted to approve a service contract between the school district and CLEARVU School Services LLC to furnish contracted food procurement specialist services Jan. 1-Dec. 31, 2021.
A copier lease agreement with Edwards Business Systems was also approved. The five-year lease agreement is for one basic BizHub300 copier for the high school office, with monthly payments of $123.41. This replaces an expired lease agreement with a monthly maintenance cost of $69.43.
The school board next meets 7 p.m. Dec. 1 for its reorganization and regular monthly meeting.
