Lehigh Township Rails to Trails has announced its winter walks will begin next month.
LTRT will lead a walk Dec. 5 around the historical areas of South Bethlehem.
The group will meet across from the ArtsQuest building at the stairway and elevator leading to the Hoover-Mason Trestle.
The walk will continue to Third Street and Delaware Avenue to learn about the mansions built by some of the industrial barons in the 1800s.
The headquarters of the former Lehigh Valley Railroad will also be on the route. The return walk will include part of the Southside greenway.
A visit to the National Museum of Industrial History will be an optional end to the journey. There is an entrance fee.
There is currently an exhibit of photos by Stephen Mallon, featuring life on the rails, to deconstruction in the recycling yard, to tracing the elements of human-made machines.
The walk will be approximately 3 miles and will take at least two hours, depending on how much time is spent on the trestle and in the museum.
In case of inclement weather, the rain date is Dec. 6.
Please bring a mask.
Although the walk is free, registration is requested. Contact Nancy by calling or texting 484-330-9627 to register.
