Catasauqua Area School District Superintendent Robert Spengler sent notifications to families Nov. 18 and 20 regarding confirmed positive cases of COVID-19 at Catasauqua High School.
According to the notifications, the appropriate quarantines and isolations are in effect for impacted individuals, in accordance with Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and Pennsylvania Department of Health guidelines.
The school will remain open at the time as health and contract tracing data does not indicate the spread happened within the school, Spengler said.
“Our mitigation efforts have proven to be successful in creating a safe environment for our students and staff,” Spengler noted. “This accomplishment is due to the heroic efforts of our parents, students, staff and community in implementing healthy practices.”
Previously, Spengler sent a notification Sept. 20 reporting a positive COVID-19 case at Catasauqua Middle School.
District students, families and staff are encouraged to avoid close contact with people who are sick, wash their hands frequently, avoid touching their faces, stay home if sick, cover their faces if sneezing and coughing, clean and disinfect frequently touched surfaces, practice social distancing and wear face masks.
Students should stay home if they are experiencing symptoms such as a fever of 100 degrees Fahrenheit or greater, cough, shortness of breath, difficulty breathing, nausea or vomiting, diarrhea, lack of smell or taste, sore throat, chills, muscle pain, headache, congestion or runny nose.
It is recommended people follow the CDC and DOH recommendations to contain the community spread of COVID-19.
Spengler noted the school district will monitor the situation and will provide updates as necessary.
“Please know the health and safety of our students and staff are our highest priorities,” Spengler said.
