Members of Jordan United Church of Christ, at the corner of Walbert Avenue and Route 309, South Whitehall, recently celebrated Harvest Home Sunday by creating a display,
Robert Schantz of Lower Macungie, a member of Jordan UCC, has been in charge of designing the Harvest Home display for more than 25 years and has been involved with designing items for the service for 50 years.
“The display for this year had to be set up early so the service could be taped for showing on Sept. 27 via our church’s Facebook and Vimeo,” Schantz emailed The Press.
He also said this year was different because on Sept. 27 they also had a live worship in Harting Chapel on Lookout Hill, an outdoor chapel on the church grounds in preparation for Harvest Home Sunday.
“On Sept. 26, the indoor display was dismantled and reconfigured for the live outdoor worship for harvest home out in the beauty of surrounding nature,” he stated.
Schantz said he purchased the hex signs at an online farm auction in New Tripoli.
“Church members were encouraged to bring canned goods in during the week and that Sunday,” Schantz said.
Schantz said all the nonperishable items are donated to Jordan Lutheran‘s food pantry.
The Sunday School classes were also encouraged to bring in bags of food, he added.
“Last year, we had over 25 crates of food as a donation,” Schantz stated.
