Superintendent Dr. Craig Butler at the Oct. 27 board meeting effusively praised district staff and faculty for their diligence in maintaining safe and distanced schooling during this tumultuous year.
He also addressed rumors of distancing violations when more than one teacher is in a room, but assured the audience everything is in compliance.
Administrators also responded to a recent parent survey, saying the results were surprisingly positive, and that most dissatisfied parents desire more direct contact with officials to answer questions, which Director of Special Education Jaime Vlasaty said was already in the works.
Not everyone was convinced of the smooth operations. During public comment, Resident Mark Salgado spoke on behalf of teachers, who he said are highly stressed and feel unappreciated.
He also questioned the use of strong disinfectants in closed rooms and whether students were truly maintaining six feet apart throughout the day.
Board President Shamim Pakzad said he appreciates Salgado’s comments at meetings and that he should also address his concerns to his own children, so they are educated about about current circumstances.
