Rescue Mission having holiday meal, food and supplies drive

Every year the Allentown Rescue Mission provides a traditional holiday meal to its homeless men on Thanksgiving Day.

The holidays bring with them an increased need for food and supplies, and to meet the increased demand, the Mission is urgently calling on the community to donate food and supplies through its Thanks for Giving campaign.

Individuals, businesses, and other organizations can participate in this event by collecting food and supply items for donation.

The Mission will have two donation drop-off days: 3-6 p.m. Nov. 20 and 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Nov. 21.

However, if you collect food and supplies past those dates, schedule a drop-off on a different day.

Contactless drop-offs will be available at 355 Hamilton St., Allentown.

The Mission will be observing all COVID-19 social distancing and mask requirements.

“A nutritious meal is at the heart of the Thanksgiving season, and we want to help bless our homeless neighbors during this season,” CEO Stuart Smith said.

“Through this special holiday outreach, we can provide a traditional Thanksgiving dinner, along with friendly fellowship, to people who would otherwise go without it. It’s a way to share the celebration of Thanksgiving with those who join us at our dining tables.”
