The District 11 football tournament gets underway this weekend and COVID has already made its affect on the tournament.
Saucon Valley was supposed to play Bethlehem Catholic in a four-five matchup in 4A classification, but because of further positive cases in the school, the Panthers have dropped out of the tournament.
The 4A bracket has now shuffled, as Becahi will face Blue Mountain at 12 p.m. Saturday afternoon at Northwestern. With Saucon dropping out, Bangor entered the tournament as the eighth-seed as they’ll play top-seeded Central Catholic on Friday night in Allentown. But, Bangor dropped out as of Thursday morning, giving the Vikings a bye. That still means a potential round two of the Holy War could be on hand next week in the semifinal round, as the top half of the 4A bracket will likely have the champion crowned.
The bottom half of the 4A bracket will feature second-seeded Pottsville taking on seventh-seeded Wilson. Northwestern (third-seed) and Lehighton (sixth-seed) square off in the other matchup.
In 6A, Nazareth jumps in as the top-seed and will take on eighth-seeded Pleasant Valley in the opener. Stroudsburg (fourth-seed) and Parkland (fifth-seed) are the other matchup in the top half.
Fresh off their win over the Trojans last week, Emmaus comes in as the second-seed and face seventh-seeded Easton. Third-seeded Freedom will host sixth-seeded Pocono Mountain West in the other game on the slate.
The rest of the classification contests are below.
In 5A, Whitehall now opens up at home Sunday afternoon against Southern Lehigh in a two-three matchup, while top-seeded East Stroudsburg South plays fourth-seeded Pocono Mountain East.
