Residents may apply for two openings on Salisbury Township boards

Residents may apply for two openings on Salisbury Township boards.

Meanwhile, candidates for the township tax collector position have been narrowed from seven to three, Salisbury Township Manager Cathy Bonaskiewich announced at the Oct. 22 board of commissioners’ meeting.

The final tax collector candidates are expected to be interviewed before mid-November.

Salisbury Township Real Estate Tax Collector-Treasurer Linda Minger has announced her intention to resign.

The appointee will fill the unexpired term of Minger for the 2021 fiscal year.

According to the township website: “[Tax collector] Duties include being responsible for the collection and accounting of township and school district real estate taxes.

“Candidate must reside in Salisbury Township and should have an accounting background and computer skills.”

A seat on the township zoning hearing board is open with the resignation of Todd Laudenschlager, which was accepted by a 5-0 vote at the Oct. 22 township board of commissioners’ meeting.

“He has served since January 2010. He’s decided to leave his post early,” Bonaskiewich said.

The zoning hearing board vacancy is for a resident from Ward 3.

The zoning hearing board meets 7 p.m. the first Tuesday of the month in the municipal building for officials and applicants and via the Zoom format for the public because of COVID-19 protocol, which limits the number of persons to 25 at indoor gatherings.

As stated Oct. 16 on the township website:

“The board of commissioners seeks applicants to serve on the zoning hearing board to fill an unexpired term to Jan. 1, 2025.

“If you are interested and would like to be considered for appointment, please download and complete the application form and submit it along with a resume to: Attn: Township Manager, 2900 S. Pike Ave., Allentown, 18103, or info@salisburytownshippa.org.”

A seat on the township environmental advisory council is open following the resignation of Sandra Eckhart, which was accepted by a 5-0 vote at the Oct. 22 township board of commissioners’ meeting.

The environmental advisory council meets 7 p.m. on the third Wednesday of the month. During the COVID-19 pandemic, meetings have been held via the Zoom online platform.

The board of commissioners seeks an applicant for the Ward 4 vacancy to serve on the environmental advisory council to fill an unexpired term to Jan. 1, 2021.

In other business at the Oct. 22 meeting, Salisbury Township Chief of Police Kevin Soberick announced, “We’re going to do enforcement on Pump House Road.

“This is a warning to the public.

“Once we do it, it will be enforced,” Soberick said.

“There’s been ATVs and campfires,” Soberick added.

Residents have complained to the township environmental advisory council of the alleged activities in Walking Purchase Park, a heavily-wooded and secluded 500-acre area between Lehigh Mountain and the Lehigh River accessible by Constitution Drive from the west in Allentown and by Riverside Drive from the east in Bethlehem.

It was announced the commissioners’ second monthly meeting in November is to be held 7 p.m. Nov. 24, in the municipal building, instead of Nov. 26, which is the Thanksgiving Day holiday.

The Salisbury Township Board of Commissioners’ next scheduled meeting is 7 p.m. Nov. 12 in the township municipal building, 2900 S. Pike Ave.

Township officials and representatives of the media meet in the municipal building.

Because of the COVID-19 pandemic indoor meeting protocol, the public must preregister to attend via the Zoom format.
