THE 187TH LEGISLATIVE DISTRICT

Republican incumbent state Rep. Gary Day will face Democrat Michael Blichar Jr. Nov. 3 for the seat in the 187th Legislative District.

The Lehigh Valley Press asked the candidates for the 187th Legislative District to answer the following question in 100 words or less:

“What issue on your platform will you tackle first if elected or re-elected.”

Michael Blichar Jr., Democrat

My first priority will be to ensure that we are addressing the effects that this pandemic has had on workers and small businesses. I plan to introduce a recovery plan that puts them first.

This will include removing tax barriers for small businesses, investing funds in grants job creation, in addition to livable wages for workers.

My plan is multifaceted to address intersectional issues related to the pandemic such as prescription costs, safe staffing for nurses, funding for public education, and investment in infrastructure. I will ensure all key stakeholders in the district are involved in these policies initiatives.

Gary Day, Republican incumbent

I’ll continue working for everyone’s issues. As committee chairman, I assembled diverse and knowledgeable professional/residence to advise on the COVID-19 response. I held nursing home providers and state regulators accountable. I worked tirelessly and brought forth many options for the best health and safety outcomes for aging Pennsylvanians. As a result, all Pennsylvanians are safer. I will pursue various issues from people in our district, like homebuying, military employment, and reducing over regulation. I appreciate your consideration and would like to use my experience to make sure your opinions are heard. Your input, makes me a better representative, please contact me with your concerns.
