Dr. Gary McCartney, who served as Parkland’s superintendent from 1992-2004, has been selected to lead the search for an individual to take the position of Richard Sniscak who will retire June 29, 2021.
McCartney had a 50-year career in public education with 30 of those years as a superintendent in Pennsylvania and New Jersey.
After leaving Parkland, McCartney took a superintendent’s position in New Brunswick, N.J.
He was president of the superintendents’ associations in Pennsylvania and New Jersey.
McCartney is retired from public school employment but provides services to districts as a consultant and strategist.
His firm, GPM Educational Consulting Services LLC, will be paid $20,000 to do the work.
The action was approved at the Oct. 20 board meeting.
There is a survey on the district’s Web page allowing stakeholders to provide input on the superintendent search.
Access is available at ParklandSD.org/suptsearch.
The survey, which consists of seven questions, was devised to gather thoughts, reactions and insights in the safest way possible to facilitate finding a successor for Sniscak.
At the end of the survey, respondents can comment on the search and what characteristics they want in the new superintendent.
