Field hockey ends season

The Northampton field hockey team finished their regular last Thursday with a 7-0 thrashing of Bethlehem Catholic. The K-Kids did not allow a shot on goal and earned 28 corners to the Golden Hawks’ one.

Olivia Lorah scored a hat trick. Bri Sell had two goals and an assist. Jordan Somers had a goal and an assist. Kennadee Carreras assisted on Sell’s first goal. Freshman Kendall Iasiello’s first varsity goal was the final goal of the day for Northampton.

The Kids’ 8-1-1 record on the season marked their highest season winning percentage since the reorganization of the EPC in its current form. They finished second in the Northampton Division to 9-1 Easton, due to an unexpected 0-0 tie with Nazareth, who they had beaten two days earlier 5-1.

The team’s district seeding was still in doubt until Parkland completed their season on Saturday. Once all the power ratings were tabulated, Northampton claimed the third seed behind Emmaus and arch-nemesis Easton.

Senior Olivia Lorah did not take qualifying for districts for granted.

“It’s definitely a thrill, especially this year being a higher seed,” she said. “We’ve worked since freshman year to our senior year to be a higher seed. That was our goal coming in.”

The K-Kids will host Nazareth on Thursday at 4 p.m. in the district quarterfinals. Head Carrie Saul spoke about the tie game with Nazareth.

“It killed us,” she said. “We were just off. When one or two players are off, we can usually pick up the slack. Everybody was flat. We weren’t connecting on our passes. They (Nazareth) definitely had a nice game against us, and their goalie had a phenomenal game.”

If Northampton gets by the Blue Eagles, they will almost certainly travel to Easton on Wednesday for the district semis. The K-Kids and Rovers split a pair of 2-1 games in early October.

Senior Jordan Somers described the highlight of her field hockey career.

“Beating Easton. We’ve been working for that for four years and we finally got it,” she said.

Needless to say, a win to propel the K-Kids to the district final would probably become the topper.

The season scoring leaders for Northampton were: Bri Sell (14 G, 8 A), Olivia Lorah (12 G, 10 A), Jordan Somers (9 G, 3 A), Kenadee Carreras (5 G, 2 A), Morgan McEntire (2 G, 4 A), Eliza Rogerson (2 G, 1 A), Meredith McGraw (2 G), Laura Tucker (1 G, 1 A), Taylor Kranzley (1 G, 1 A), Kendall Iasiello (1 G, 1A), Maddy Siegfried (2 A), and Brooke Peters (1 A).
