Bethlehem Catholic took second place at the District XI Class 2A Team Tennis Tournament after falling to Moravian Academy, 3-0, last Wednesday at Moravian Academy.
“I think it was really exciting and a good experience since we made it this far. I’m really proud of the team,” said Becahi’s two singles player Shannon Stewart.
Stewart lost to Chessie Bartolacci, 6-1, 6-2.
“We were both hitting very clean, and she had a lot of great shots that were angled,” Stewart said. “I tried switching it up a little. I thought maybe I’ll go for more power in this game, or maybe I’ll go for more placement, just trying to see which style worked the most.”
At one singles, Cara Magliochetti was ahead in the second set, 5-2, after losing the first, 4-6, to Isabella Bartolacci.
“Most of the girls from Beca and most of the girls on our team play together. We’re all really good friends on and off the court, so it’s hard to play people you’re friends with, but our goal was to win no matter who it was against, and I’m really happy we were able to achieve that,” said Bartolacci. “Cara is such an amazing player, and it always goes either way when we play. It’s the second time we won as a team, and I’m really happy to play in the state tournament this year.”
The match at three singles was entering its third set, but Moravian Academy had already won the title.
Moravian’s Jamilie Atiyeh won the first set, 6-1, and Becahi’s Taylor Adams won the second, 6-4.
In doubles play, Becahi’s Alexa Schoenfield and Maddie Lennert lost to Dedee Hoffman and Yan Yu, 6-4, 6-1, and Becahi’s Patty Superka and Cecile Szollas lost to Grace Wright and Sophia Brands, 7-5, 6-2.
