7TH CONGRESSIONAL DISTRICT

Democrat incumbent Congresswoman Susan Wild will face Republican Lisa Scheller Nov. 3 for the seat in the 7th Congressional District.

The Lehigh Valley Press asked the candidates to respond to the following question in 100 words or less:

“What issue on your agenda will you tackle first if elected or re-elected?

Democrat

Susan Wild

incumbent

Our top priority has to be beating this virus and getting our economy back up and running again. We need to get our children back in schools, their parents back to work and our economy thriving again.

And to do that, we have to invest in a solid testing system and an infrastructure to quickly distribute a vaccine as soon as it becomes available.

We also must focus on rebuilding our economy from the middle out. We need strong apprenticeship programs, support for small businesses, job retraining opportunities and a focus on bringing jobs back to the United States and the Greater Lehigh Valley.

Republican

Lisa Scheller

As I visit every corner of the 7th Congressional District, it is immensely clear to me, people need to safely return to work. My No. 1 focus when elected to Congress will be bringing jobs back to the area.

As a business owner who employs 150 Pennsylvanians, I know how important a paycheck can be. We cannot wait. We must jump start our economy by turning the lights back on in our small businesses and safely returning to work.

This can only happen with a meaningful stimulus package focused on small businesses and how we can help workers and their families.

Editor’s note: The 7th Congressional District includes all of Lehigh and Northampton counties and the southern part of Monroe County.
