Whitehall-Coplay School District notified parents and guardians Oct. 16 that an individual within Gockley Elementary School had been diagnosed with COVID-19. The notification did not identify if the individual was a student or a WCSD employee.
School leadership, in conjunction with local public health officials, has determined there is no need to close the school, according to the notification, which added the classrooms and spaces used by the individual had been cleaned and disinfected.
Whitehall High School was closed Sept. 25-29 after two confirmed positive cases of COVID-19 and two presumed positive cases within one week, according to an email sent to families Sept. 24. The school reopened Sept. 30, with students attending classes Oct. 1.
The week before, on Sept. 18, WCSD released information on a positive COVID-19 case at Steckel Elementary School, and on Sept. 17, WCSD notified parents and guardians an individual at WHS had been diagnosed with COVID-19.
Information on the first positive case in WCSD came in a Sept. 8 letter, which notified parents and guardians an individual “within the district” had been diagnosed with COVID-19. The notification did not identify if the individual was a student or a WCSD employee.
