FHS QB ruled not eligible

News spread quickly last week when Freedom’s junior quarterback Brian Taylor was ruled ineligible for the rest of the season because of a residency issue.

Taylor, who spent his sophomore year at Freedom after transferring from Bethlehem Catholic, was found that he wasn’t living in Bethlehem, forcing the administration to rule him eligible.

“We were made aware of a residency issue last Monday, and based on our investigation, found that Brian was not living in Bethlehem,” said Freedom principal Michael LaPorta. “We were completely unaware of the situation and made the decision on Wednesday after our findings through the investigation.”

Freedom won’t be forced to forfeit its two wins with Taylor under center this season either, as LaPorta made District 11 chairman Bob Hartman aware of the situation immediately.

Taylor led Freedom to a 2-0 start to the season, throwing for 327 yards and three touchdowns in its wins over Northampton and Easton.

Sophomore quarterback Ethan Neidig took over the reigns in last week’s contest against Nazareth, throwing for 146 yards, a touchdown and an interception in the Pates 21-7 loss.
