Liberty’s girls’ cross country team capped off its season beating Freedom, 23-33, and finishing the regular season undefeated.
“The girls’ team has worked really hard this season, everybody from one to nine. It really paid off and you can see it in the record, not just in the times,” said Liberty’s Maddi Drager, who placed fourth in 20:58. “We’re both Bethlehem schools, and it’s a neat connection between the two. When we’re scoring, we obviously want to beat each other.”
Liberty’s Emily Jobes won the girls’ race with a time of 19:25, and Freedom’s Lauren Charboneau placed second in 19:59.
Liberty’s Ella Scott was third with a time of 20:54, Freedom’s Aubrey Yeager came in fifth in 21:45, Liberty’s Madeline Mumma placed sixth in 22:19, and Freedom’s Eliza Fihlman was seventh in 22:29.
“I didn’t do as well as I did in the last meet, but I’m still pretty proud of my performance. I stayed where my coach wanted me to stay,” said Fihlman, who was also celebrating the Patriots’ senior night on Tuesday. “It’s kind of weird, thinking this is the last time I’m going to run on this course.”
Freedom’s Julia Heineman came in eighth in 22:33, Mikailyn Matacavage was ninth in 22:45, and Anahi Ramos placed 10th in 23:29, both for the Hurricanes.
