The U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration again is coordinating a collaborative effort with state and local law enforcement agencies to remove potentially dangerous controlled substances from homes during the 19th National Take Back Day event, which will be held 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Oct. 24.

Since the first Take Back Day in 2010, 12,943.5 pounds of medications have been collected in the county. In addition, 24,315 pounds of medications have been deposited in the permanent medication collection boxes that are in most of the police departments and at Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest; Lehigh Valley Hospital-Muhlenberg, Bethlehem; and Lehigh Valley Hospital, 17th and Chew streets, Allentown.

The following police departments will participate in the Oct. 24 collection:

• Catasauqua Police Department, 90 Bridge St.

• North Catasauqua Police Department, 1066 Fourth St.

• Bethlehem Police Department - A cruiser will be parked at the curb near the Subway entrance of the Westgate Mall at 2285 Schoenersville Road, Bethlehem.

• Emmaus Police Department, 400 Jubilee St.

• Fountain Hill Police Department, 941 Long St., Suite 1; and in the parking lot of St. Luke’s University Hospital-Bethlehem, 801 Ostrum St.

• Macungie Police Department, 21 Locust St.

• Salisbury Police Department - Collections will be held at Salisbury Township Senior High School, 500 E. Montgomery St., and Salisbury Township Middle School, 3301 Devonshire Road.

• Upper Saucon Township Police Department, 5500 Camp Meeting Road, Center Valley
