Daily Grind, Governor Wolf Historical Society honored for preservation initiatives
The 2020 Pennsylvania Historic Preservation Awards celebration was held 4 p.m. Oct. 14. Two Bath Borough entities - Daily Grind and Governor Wolf Historical Society - were honored.
Daily Grind, a cafe operated by Jennifer and Allen George at 116 E. Main St., received the award in the residential/small project rehabilitation category. The Georges worked extraordinarily hard to transform the physical appearance of the property.
They created an inviting, comfortable coffee shop/restaurant featuring a breakfast and lunch menu with an array of soups and sides. The owners tout they offer Bath’s best cheese steaks and other reasonably priced choices. With an elaborate menu with locally named sandwiches, they offer culinary choices for a variety of palates.
Daily Grind offers a grab-and-go service. Visit dailygrindsandwiches.com to review the menu and place an order.
Governor Wolf Historical Society, led by President Linda Kortz, received the award for community involvement. The society’s mission is to “educate people about Gov. George Wolf and the early Scots-Irish and German inhabitants in East Allen Township.”
The society was founded in 1957 and incorporated in 1958. It has been a long-term, successful organization because of its dedicated volunteers.
The historical society operates a museum on the campus at 6660 Jacksonville Road and has renovated the Ralston-McKeen House, Wolf Academy, Richard Nye Memorial Garden and Monocacy Schoolhouse. It rents areas within the campus for special occasions. Visit govwolf.org for additional information or to donate to the society’s efforts.
The award ceremony took place virtually as part of the Statewide Conference on Heritage. Since the event was virtual, a large space with Internet and screens was needed. Bath Borough Council chambers, 121 S. Walnut St., was a perfect location. Masks and social distancing were responsibly honored throughout the celebratory gathering.
In attendance was Carol Bear-Heckman, borough council member and staunch supporter of the Bath historical renovation effort.
“It is exciting that two places in Bath were picked for awards,” Bear-Heckman said.
