AdvisorSmith, a business insurance research firm, recently released its newest report on the “Safest Cities in Pennsylvania.” It showed that Bethlehem is the eighth safest large city in Pennsylvania.
We discovered that:
• Bethlehem had a total crime score of 56, which was around the average of 55 in large Pennsylvania cities with over 100,000 residents. (Allentown, ranked ninth, earned a 61)
• Bethlehem’s violent crime rate was 18.6 per 1,000 residents, compared with an average of 10.8 per 1,000 in large Pennslyvania cities. (Allentown 16.6)
• The city’s property crime rate was 19.4 per 1,000 residents. Statewide, the average property crime rate in large cities was 16.1 per 1,000. (Allentown 22.8)
The study analyzed violent and property crimes from 15 large cities, 194 midsize cities, and 660 small cities. Crime scores were calculated for each city, and the cities were ranked to find the safest places in Pennsylvania.
