There will be a football postseason this year in District 11, it just won’t include the state playoffs.
District 11 voted to opt out of the PIAA tournament last week following the news of the state tournament beginning on November 6 and 7, which is the same weekend that District 11 will open most of its tournaments.
The state finals are then scheduled for the weekend after Thanksgiving, on November 27 and 28.
Those dates would not give District 11 enough time to complete their own district tournaments, therefore bypassing the state tourney was the best option during a season that has been heavily affected by the coronavirus.
With most teams in the district having five-game schedules, this year’s brackets will feature eight teams in Class 6A, 4A and 2A. Class 5A, 3A and 1A will have four teams.
Schools that do not qualify for the tournament or who get eliminated early in districts, will have the ability to schedule contests until Thanksgiving weekend.
Quarterfinal and semifinal rounds will be held at the site of the higher seed. That may apply for the championship rounds as well, but the district would prefer to play at a neutral site.
