Dear Editor:
I wrote a letter to my PA Senator to end gerrymandering. Redistricting reform is still on the table even though the deadline for a constitutional amendment creating an independent citizens redistricting commission is behind us, there is another way to end gerrymandering: LACRA - the Legislative and Congressional Redistricting Act.
Write to your state senator today.
Ask them to vote on LACRA before the end of October (when the legislative session ends).
What is LACRA?
The Legislative and Congressional Redistricting Act (Senate Bill 1242) keeps Pennsylvania’s existing redistricting body, the Legislative Reapportionment Commission that handles legislative redistricting, adds new safeguards to the process and extends these requirements to congressional redistricting as well:
• Creates a more transparent process
• Expands opportunities for meaningful public input
• Introduces clear, measurable map-drawing criteria designed to prevent partisan gerrymandering and promote accountability to voters
• Contains the elements of reform that the majority of Pennsylvania voters want in our redistricting process
