Two warehouses being constructed in North Whitehall

Towering over the Coplay Creek Road neighborhood on a hillside near the Pennsylvania Turnpike, between Sand Spring and Levans roads, the walls of two under-construction warehouses are visible.

Located east of Route 309, along Independence Drive, Schnecksville, the buildings will provide a combined total of 1,326,950-square-feet of warehouse space on approximately 128 acres.

Known as the North Valley Trade Center, the proposal for the complex was submitted to the township by owner TCNE North Whitehall LLC of Rutherford, N.J.

Before construction, the land was used for agriculture and included some woodland and a wetland.

Plans show eight stormwater infiltration basins and a wetland mitigation section.

Building One, at 812,185 square feet, will accommodate an estimated 136 employees per shift and five to 10 managers.

Building Two, at 514,765 square feet, provides for 117 employees per shift and five to 10 managers.

The larger building will have 331 parking spaces. The smaller building will have 282 parking spaces.

Park View Drive will be opened back to the warehouses for employees’ access only. The road is not wide enough for trucks.

North Valley Road is the new driveway for trucks to access the complex from Independence Drive.

Trucks may exit the area and connect with Route 309 at Pennsylvania Street or Levans Road. They will not be allowed to make a left turn onto Levans Road.

North Whitehall Township Manager Chris Garges reports the hours of operation and number of trucks per day are not yet known.

“It depends on the tenants, and they don’t have tenants now,” Garges said.
