Resident asks for local police department

The Lower Macungie Board of Commissioners held its meeting at the Lower Macungie Township Community Center Sept. 3. This meeting location is temporary as the township building was damaged by tropical storm flooding and is under repair.

The commissioners approved the township’s three salvage yard renewal licenses. There have been no expansions or increased usage.

A resident from East Texas Road has had some issues with her home being broken into frequently. She often finds used candles after these break-ins. This indicates the possibility of drug usage.

She wants the commissioners to consider a local police department. The commissioners said a study was done and found a local police department was not necessary. The township uses the Pennsylvania State Police. The resident said the state police are short-staffed and cannot handle everything.

The commissioners suggested the resident install an inexpensive security camera device to show the police what is happening.

The Taco Bell plan is to be revised to allow for two lanes of drive-thru service. However, it appears there is not enough room. Measurements will be re-evaluated.

A resolution was made to adopt amended tapping fees for lateral connections to sanitary sewer. This will update the fees to connect to the sanitary sewer.

A resolution was made to allow the township to sell property and approve a bid for municibid.com. The item is a 2006 GMC pickup truck.
