Salisbury middle and high schools to hold curbside library pickup

Congratulations to all the Salisbury families that have made it through the first week of the virtual school year!

This year has started unlike that of any other. Please remember this isn’t easy for any of us, teachers included! We need to pull together and do what we can to help each other out.

Also keep in mind things are a little more structured than the spring. Attendance is taken and mandatory, new material is being taught and grades are being recorded. Hopefully the children are doing well and being as resilient as we know they can be!

If you need help, please remember to reach out to your children’s teachers and the guidance counselors at their respective schools.

The Salisbury Township School District will continue to provide free bagged meals for all district students. Meals will be served curbside and contactless and can be picked up both at Salisbury Elementary School and Salisbury Middle School. Meals are now able to be picked up 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 5 to 7 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays. Breakfast and lunch for the appropriate amount of days will be placed in each bag. Students do not need to be present and it is requested you wear a face covering during any staff interaction. Any questions can be directed to Nicholas Correa, general manager of child nutrition at 347-821-6219 or via email at nicholas.correa@sfellc.org.

Salisbury High School and SMS will hold a curbside library 1:30-2:30 p.m. Thursdays. Holds for books must be placed by end of the day Monday for Thursday pickup. There is a short video on the school district site for more information or if you have questions, reach out to Jane Brennan (jbrennan@salisburysd.org) at SMS or Robin Burns (rburns@salisburysd.org) at SHS.

The SMS field hockey team is looking for girls in seventh and eighth grade who would like to learn more about the sport. No experience is needed. Contact Coach Silberman at msilberman@salisburysd.org. Practices have started.

The Salisbury Athletic Booster Club Clothing Drive will take place Oct. 3. The drop-off location is SHS’s old gym entrance 9 a.m. to noon. The truck will pick up donations between noon and 1 p.m. For more information on what items will and will not be accepted, visit www.clothingdrive.net. Thank you in advance for any donations.

There is a new series online to help support parents and caregivers in this unprecedented start of the school year. The “So Now What?” series will cover a range of topics specifically related to the current times, including social emotional health, mental health, learning resources, communication, tech safety and more.

All information is provided by industry leading professionals, online and free for everyone. Weekly sessions are held via Zoom Wednesday evenings in September. To register, visit http://bit.ly/sonowwhatseries.

The Salisbury Township drop-off centers continue to be open on alternating weeks. The Franko Farm site will be open the week of Sept. 21 and the Devonshire site will be open the week of Sept. 28. Hours continue to be 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday and Thursday, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday and 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturdays.
