NHS girls tennis looks for win
At the halfway point of their abbreviated season, the Northampton girls tennis team is still looking for their first team point. They dropped a 7-0 decision to Liberty on Monday during a blustery afternoon on the Carbone Tennis Courts.
In singles, Abby Beil was defeated by Veronica Lynn 0-6, 3-6. Caitlin Stoudt hung tough, but lost 3-6, 5-7 to Angie Ronca, and Emma Whitman fell to Margeaux Donchez 1-6, 1-6.
In doubles, Isabella Sawryrinski and Guila LaForga lost to Denise Price and Ava Sabetti 3-8. Caroline Gray and Rachel Zeitner went down to Sruti Tekumalla and Sofia Horstman 2-6, 2-6. Olivia Tepes and Bella Aguanno dropped a 2-6, 1-6 decision to Elise Kney and Hemani Patel. Carissa Andrew and Devon Rogozinski were beaten by Ashlan Snyder and Sophia Csatari 1-6, 3-6.
“We should have won that,” said head coach Kim Davis. “This was frustrating, because I know they can play better than that. We’re just young. Other than number-one singles, the talent level was almost dead even.”
Top singles player Abby Beil was undaunted with having to face some of the toughest opponents in the league.
“It’s intimidating, but at the end of the day it’s helping my game,” she said.
Davis asked Beil after her match whether she wanted a rematch on Wednesday, or if she would rather play at the number-two position. Beil opted to take another shot at Lynn, who Davis feels is the third or fourth best player in the league.
The Kids’ rematch with Liberty on Wednesday occurred too late for Press deadlines.
Northampton will finish its season with home-and-home contests against Nazareth and Bethlehem Catholic. The Blue Eagles split their matches with Liberty and have a win over Freedom to their credit. The Golden Hawks have steamrolled the Northampton County Division, dropping only a single match across their 5-0 start.
