Tennis falls to EHS

Northampton’s girls’ tennis team was hoping, even expecting a different outcome in their 0-7 loss to Easton on Tuesday at Easton.

“We were our own worst enemies,” said K-Kids coach Kim Davis. “We kept making mistakes, and you can’t do that. They had some good players, but we scored almost all their points.”

In singles play, Abby Beil had the closest match at number one.

“This was a better match [than the score],” Coach Davis said.

Beil lost to Suhani Makwana, 4-6, 1-6.

“We went to deuce almost every point. The difference was I didn’t win the tiebreaker,” said Beil. “Lobbing it to the baseline was working and my angle shots, but her serves were so fast, they would go right past me.”

Beil was a doubles player last year, rising to the top from alternate one.

“You’re playing different people who are definitely different in skill sets,” she said. “Learning how to play the entire court versus half is an adjustment. It’s all you, so there’s no one to be mad at.”

In doubles play, Caroline Gray and Rachel Zeitner dropped a close match to Gia Williams and Sophia Farnsworth, 6-7, 4-6.

“This should have definitely been a win,” said Coach Davis. “These kids are playing good tennis but they get brain cramps.”

Gray and Zeitner lost by almost the same score, 5-7, 4-6, to the two doubles team from Freedom last week, but will have had a chance to avenge that loss this Wednesday, past Press deadlines.

On Thursday, the K-Kids will host Easton, and on Monday will host Liberty.
