NORTH WHITEHALL Pastor Camp offers return to learning blessing for school

BY SUSAN RUMBLE

Special to The Press

At a recent Union Lutheran worship service, Pastor Gordon Camp offered a blessing for the return to learning.

He invited students, teachers, support staff and anyone else interested in education to join together for the blessing.

This year, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Union Lutheran will stage a virtual Rally Day on Sept. 13 to inaugurate the new Sunday School term.

The format will include short, fun-filled and educational online, recorded videos.

The Sunday School programs will be available on the church website, Facebook and Instagram.

Pastor Camp reports Union Lutheran is endeavoring to provide worship activities which are safe with social distancing and face covers, while refraining from embraces and other physical contact.

Almost everything is taking place outside or online.

Recently, the pastor conducted a baptism at an outdoor service using the font which was carried from the sanctuary out to the worship area.

Pastor Camp said change may be difficult but members are adjusting to it.

“We are adapting to the change of sitting social distances apart in our outdoor pews, the pastor said. “We are gathering together wearing masks and hum and clap instead of singing our favorite hymns.”

Union Lutheran is planning Sunday worship services 9 a.m. outdoors through October.
