LMT Historical Society presents scholarship

The Lower Macungie Township Historical Society recently announced its award of the society’s Norman Hoffman College Scholarship to Fionnuir Ni Chochlain, a member of the Emmaus High School Class of 2020.

Ni Chochlain, of Lower Macungie Township, will attend Northeastern University in Boston in the fall where she will major in history and political science with a minor in global health.

During her four years at EHS, Ni Chochlain was named a National Merit Scholarship finalist. She was a member of National Honor Society and enrolled in all advanced placement courses during her senior year.

She also participated in local and regional history day contests and was recognized for her essays in those events.

Ni Chochlain also served as president of the EHS Interact Club, a high school service club that has supported several LMTHS events.

Ni Chochlain also is a pianist and piano teacher. While at EHS she was a member of the Acabella and Select Choir ensembles and was selected to sing in combined regional choirs.

The Norman Hoffman Scholarship is given by Russ Hoffman in honor of his older brother who lived his early years in what is now called the Wescosville Log House and whose study at Muhlenberg College was interrupted by his service in World War II. Norman Hoffman completed his undergraduate education at Muhlenberg after the war and continued graduate study in education at Lehigh University.

He became a teacher in the Upper Dublin School District.
