Travis Brett won’t forget his first year of being a varsity football head coach at Catasauqua.
Due to the COVID-19 situation, Brett has been on a virtual seesaw trying to keep his players intact and striving to keep his schedule on pace.
Monday afternoon, Brett and the rest of the Catasauqua athletic department gained some solid footing.
The Colonial League voted 8-5 to begin football games on Sept. 25 instead of the previous start date of Sept. 11. For Catty, cross country can begin on Sept. 11, and field hockey, soccer, and volleyball can start on Sept. 18.
Notre Dame, Northwestern, Palisades, Pen Argyl, and Wilson voted to start football on Sept. 11 and they can find independent games or schedule games among themselves.
League officials expected to have a schedule released by the end of the week.
“This was the best case scenario,” said Brett. “We just wanted to play this year. We will keep working.
“We had hoped to get a seven-on-seven scrimmage, but I don’t think it will be possible. We keep working and conditioning and ease a little toward the opener. Our kids are excited to play.”
Roughies’ athletic director Tom Moll believes his teams will start accordingly. On August 21.
“As of right now, I think we will be OK (for football) on the 25th,” said Moll. “With the other sports, their schedules will pick up where they are at that point after the 11th or the 18th. It looks like we will get six football games, and the other sports will play out their schedules.”
