Trump Jr. mobilizes sportsmen

Donald Trump Jr. visited North Whitehall Aug. 13 to mobilize area sportsmen to support his father’s re-election bid on Nov. 3.

Speaking to an audience of about 250 mostly men on a humid afternoon at Lehigh Valley Sporting Clays, Coplay, the president’s oldest son, himself an avid hunter and fishing enthusiast, helped launch the “Sportsmen for Trump Coalition.”

Trump Jr. said he was bringing the message of supporting American ideals, along with the preservation of outdoor activities on public lands for this and future generations.

“I believe people get that,” Trump Jr. said. “They want to stand up for these core values that they hold so dear.”

He said the sportsmen in the Lehigh Valley and surrounding areas realize what the Trump administration has done for sportsmen.

Trump Jr. said 4.1 million acres of land across the country was made accessible through his father’s administration. “That allows us to keep that tradition going; it allows us to get kids off couches and into the woods.” Trump Jr. said he speaks from experience, because as a youngster he learned so many lessons from his outdoors adventures.

Trump Jr. got in a dig about his father’s Democratic opponent, Joe Biden, who points to strong Pennsylvania ties since he was born and raised in Scranton.

The president’s son said he was in Pennsylvania from eighth grade when he attended the Hill School in Pottstown through his graduation from the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School.

“I probably spent more time here than Joe Biden,” he said.

The Pennsylvania Democratic Party issued a statement in response to his visit:

“Families in the Lehigh Valley are tired of Donald Trump’s failed coronavirus response and broken promises on Social Security and Medicare. He’s sending surrogates here to ask for money to our faces while he reaches behind our backs and steals Social Security checks from our seniors’ pockets with his disastrous new executive orders. The president needs to either do his job and protect older Pennsylvanians or get out of the way.”
