Parkland senior Udit Garg created the CodingForCovid-19 initiative to raise money for the Parkland C.A.R.E.S. Food Pantry that helps the local community battle hunger.
CodingForCovid-19 designed for fifth through ninth grade students consisted of three virtual Zoom meetings the week of June 22-26.
Participants learned how to create mobile apps just like the ones on the app store and learned how to make electronic circuits using Arduino: a leading hardware/software in electronics.
While doing this, they explored how to code Arduino circuits and mobile apps in the Swift and C programming languages.
CodingForCovid-19 was a great way for younger students to begin exploring technology and STEM from home while helping out our local communities during the COVID-19 pandemic.
To raise money for the Parkland C.A.R.E.S. Food Pantry, the class cost $45 per student and was donated directly to the CodingForCovid-19 GoFundMe which forwarded the money to the food pantry.
In the end, Udit wanted to help younger students explore STEM at home, while raising money for the Parkland C.A.R.E.S. Food Pantry that serves hundreds in the local community.
Udit raised $505 for the food pantry.
All donations were accepted on the GoFundMe linked https://gf.me/u/x6wp59.
