Community Library scholarships awarded

By SUSAN RUMBLE

Special to The Press

For three years, Friends of the Parkland Community Library have awarded scholarships in memory of Norman Dietrich and Alice Madden.

Both were volunteers at the library who helped to make the annual book sale a success.

In appreciation of their efforts, the Friends set up the scholarship program sponsored by private donations, separate from any other library fundraisers.

Recipients must be volunteers at Parkland Community Library, South Whitehall, in any capacity but they have to be pursuing a degree.

The individuals might also be a staff member who is working to further his or her education.

Three individuals were selected to receive scholarships this year.

Imran Ali Dharamsi is a 2020 Parkland High School graduate who has been accepted at Brown University.

Ga Young Lee, also a 2020 Parkland graduate, is planning to attend Columbia University.

Daniel Oravetz, a library employee, is going to Kutztown University.

Presentation of the scholarships took place Aug. 3 at Covered Bridge Park.
