Signs stolen at rec fields
At the July 29 meeting of the Northwestern Recreation Commission, Maintenance man Jim Hughes reported charges were being pressed against two men who stole signs from the rec commission’s community park.
In other matters, a request for use was received from USSSA softball for use of the fields on May 22, 23, 24; June 5, 6; and July 10 and 11, 2021.
The group regularly requests field use a year early for a tournament.
The insurance check for a water heater at the refreshment stand has not yet been received.
Commission member Justin Smith, of Lynn Township, is checking on the delay.
Hughes reported cracks in the basketball court are being power washed and repaired.
Smith said an overlay system is being used. Fill is placed in the cracks, then fabric is added and resurfacing is done.
A family is purchasing a memorial bench to be placed at the recreation fields.
Prices were requested for memorial benches or trees.
A tree and planting will cost the rec commission $300, with an additional cost for a plaque.
This would leave little of the $500 cost, which would be money for the rec commission.
Hughes will obtain prices for a bench with installation.
Commission member Rick Hughes, of Lowhill Township, said as there are no parks in his township, money collected for recreation fees will be turned over to the rec commission.
A zero turn Kubota mower is one item in an upcoming auction.
Commission members discussed bidding on it.
The one at the auction house has been used for 600 hours and was $14,000 to $15,000 new.
Commission member Steve Bachman, of Heidelberg Township, said it looks brand-new.
Hughes said he has a personal Kubota and the deck cracked within five to six years.
Commission member Rick Hughes of Lowhill Township, said they should set a maximum bid of $7,900.
Bachman suggested a bid of $7,000 but the commission decided to pass on it.
