Lehigh Valley Zoo welcomes back visitors

Under a hot Fourth of July sun, families strolled through the just-reopened Lehigh Valley Zoo, Schnecksville, stopping to admire penguins, otters and even giraffes.

With safety protocols in place, visitors were welcomed as of July 1. Zoo animals enchanted visitors with their antics, encouraging family members to share a pleasant outdoor experience and make memories.

Masked zoo personnel were upbeat and helpful, in compliance with the state mandate to wear masks.

According to the zoo’s website, “Safety is our first priority during this time, and so we will be firmly following all protocols.”

All visitors over age 2 are required to wear masks.

“This is not only for the safety of our guests but for the protection of our animals as they cannot wear a mask. Some of our animals (like our cats) may be more susceptible to the virus, and we want to keep them as safe as possible,” the zoo’s website continues.

Visitors complied, despite the heat. A misting station provided a few moments of cool wetness. Hand sanitizer stations were also available throughout the zoo.

Social distancing was the order of the day, assisted by pavement markings and signs directing visitors throughout the zoo. Timed tickets and limited guest capacity also helped keep visitors safer.

Lehigh Valley Zoo will be open daily 10 a.m.-4 p.m. until Oct. 31. Tickets are available online only.
